NTSE stage 1 and stage 2. Giving details about cutoff, answer key, result and all updates by NCERT.

Yes Sir... it's after negative marking. Sir... I also want to ask whether the cutoff comes for MAT and SAT separately or it comes for MAT+SAT(combined)??
It is combined of MAT & SAT, once the student scores qualifying marks, separately, in all the three papers (MAT, Language & SAT. Qualifying marks are 40% for General category and 35% for Reserved Categories, separately for all three papers.
I have checked stage 2 OMR Sheets of last year the scores range from 70-97 One can see OMR by using roll no from stage 2 and DOB from stage 1 results. The DOB is available for haryana , Andhra Pradesh and jharkhand This year the cut off may go higher as SAT was little easier than last year
With 15 in MAT you will fail to qualify the paper itself (Minimum 20, i.e. 40% is qualifying criterion for Gen and 17.5, i.e. 35% for reserved categories). With this much of marks in MAT no-one can ever qualify NTSE Stage - 2.
i am getting 30 in MAT and around 72 in SAT and around 45 in Language I am in General Category, Will I clear it? By the way what will be the cutoff marks? MAT was too lenghty............................
I think I will get around 101, but two of my friends said they might get 110, 120 respectively so are you sure cutoff will be below 95? My friends may not have checked for wrong answers though
Well I think that there would be a maximum of only 200 students expecting above 100 score....So the cutoff may go around 85-90 range (in GENERAL category).... So anything above 90 is a safe score according to me...
Well then I dont think there would be 500-550 students scoring 85+-100 range alone. And 200 is a bit too much, most of the 100+ are from Delhi , Haryana only (As far as I know, not many down south over here). Lets hope that cutoff is around 80-82, so that even if there are inconsistencies in NCERT key, we can qualify with grace. You must be among the top 3-5 scorers in your state , right?
My rank in 1st level in state was 11th...Usually 20-25 students qualify from my state... This year also some of my friends are expecting aroun 100 score... That's why I am telling that above 90 is a SAFE score... However I also think that the cutoff may go around 80-82 as you have said...
Almost everyone who has written the exam and cleared MAT is wishing for the same! (because, only a small fraction has done exceedingly well and since this is the first and last time for us, we really want to make it and thus either want the cutoff to be low or MAT to be the decider ) But I feel at least around 1500-1750 students would have qualified MAT (out of the 4200) because this year's batch is much smarter than that of last year
MAT was a bit difficult and lengthy as well. does not seem likely that more than 1000 students will be able to qualify in MAT. Probably, the same happened last year as well...
Last year only 850 students cleared MAT and SAT so its likely that this year not more than 1000 will clear both the papers. But let me also point out that all the general seats were full so we can't say that just 850 cleared both the papers. Now let us consider the third point see some students from general category cleared stage 2 with 60.8 marks. This makes it clear that only 850 students cleared stage 2.
Last year one Ma.Ravi Singh cleared the NTSE stage 2 with 69 marks.Roll No.22714068 and DOB 20/03/1999.Result can be checked from ciet.nic.in/ntsems/viewanswersheet.php.Last year whosoever cleared 40% hurdle cleared NTSE stage 2. Also check 22714057/27-09-1998.The name appears in final list.
In 2013, the cutoff was 92 (without negative marking). in 2014, whosoever qualified in all three (SAT, MAT & Language) got through. i.e theoritically cutoff was around 60 (may be because of negative marking was introduced). In 2015, the papers were a bit difficult and lengthy... One may expect the same this year as well.. i.e. every one qualifying will go through...
Well you should also consider that last year's batch was not familiar with the new type of questions(e.g. Statement Assertion Type) and negative marking... So the performance of last year was no very good.... However...this year we were fully prepared by seeing last year's paper that the level of question has been increased(esp. MAT)... So...many people are expecting more than 20 in MAT...That's why I think that this year there would be a cutoff...
That would be considered as a wrong answer and negative marking would be done... However if you have filled Test booklet No. or Roll No. or DOB wrongly then nothing could be done... Your answer sheet would be rejected...
Probably they said so just to comfort you but the optical mark scanner doesn't consider two bubbles it straightaway marks it as wrong Anyways all the best...
Is it true that extra OMR was provided? I guess for a national level scholarship test like this, the OMR and QP code have to be unique or matching .Had I known of this, I would have asked for an extra OMR, it would have fetched me 4 more marks at least! :(
I really wish they gave the result within a month of tge test, now we will all have to wait for so much time. I keep worrying so much, why can't they just declare the results faster? I don't think scanning OMR sheets takes so long...
I'm getting 100 according to my own checking, there are many questions in SSt where the answer keys of coaching classes seem wrong (to me) if they are right though, i lose a lot of marks Luke Q 77,80,79,86,88
also am worried about mat (because 1/3 marks and i am gone) because answer key form allen and others show me having 1 more question wrong and in that case i am gone)
The NCERT Official key was released last year around 10th nov 2014 (exam was held on 19 oct 2014), after around 20 days. on this logic, the answer key for this year may be released by this month end...
the cut off for last year was 75 not 60-65 .... I m getting 82.66 from ALLEN ANSWER KEY and near about 84 something from CatalyseR ANSWER KEY... WHAT R MY CHANCES...
ANy one who scores above 85 have 95% chances and those b/w 80-85 like me are /will be very much tensed and confused and their secret shall be revealed on the day of the result... so still, what do u think abt my selection???
There was NO cutoff last year. People scoring as low as 60.8 got in, but even 84 didnt make it because of less than 20 in MAT. Your score is good and I hope the cutoff is less than 85, in which case you will make it mostly
Proof has already been given above in the post of Mr. Sandeep Khodwe for last year's cut-off of around 60-62. Now no question should be raised for the same. Cut-off this year also will not cross 72 marks. Check yourself the cases given above at http://ciet.nic.in/ntsems/ntseanswersheet.php.
Can we have a discussion on the answer keys for NTSE 2015 Stage 2 ? Some of the keys provided by the coaching institutes differ.
MAT Qn 17 : Teachers can be Doctors and vice-versa (as can be seen in Medical colleges). Both these professions have women. So correct option is 1.
MAT Qn 34 : Cube problem. Correct option is 3. Can someone confirm if the cube (picture 3) contains a X mark and a square mark or something else ?
SAT Qn 23 : Both options 1 & 2 can be correct. In NCERT text book, though it is given as Cu only. But I saw other references where both Cu and Hg are extracted in the same way.
SAT Qn 94 : Option 3 is the correct choice. Some have given Option 1 as correct.
SAT Qn 96 : Option 1 and 4 are the same. Correct me if I am wrong.
Pls share if you have found any other discrepancy.
I deducted my marks in all such such questions and then I'm getting 25 in MAT and 62 IN SAT. If I take your answers to be correct perhaps I will get 4 or 5 marks extra.
96 HAS to be option 4. Option 1 is not the same as option 4. You can refer to definition of economic growth. Question 94, yes it has to be political inequality according to class-9 NCERT. Qn 23, well I left that one but I too feel it has to be deleted ( NCERT doesn't give bonus). Question 34 , well I wrote option 3 but the explanation given by the institutes is satisfactory to prove me wrong and question 17 well it HAS to be option 3 only because there are intersections of both A and B mutually. It clearly means that a doctor working as a teacher is not considered the same as a teacher working as a doctor. The latter case is impossible. W.R.T the medical college part, they are medical professors and "teacher" is a layman term used to refer mainly to the ones handling school or tuition classes and not med college. :) ... Though we can have a debate on this, we will have to wait for NCERT for the final call. I too have an issue with Qn 53. None of the 4 options actually are right but Allen has used trigonometric substitution and identities and arrived at 2 as the answer. The closest one is actually option 4. I am hoping that controversial questions (including maybe the 17th) get deleted so that confusion is resolved.
MAT Qn 34 : To avoid confusion, I drew the signs on a real cube and checked it :). Option 3 is correct. U can also try it. In the Allen solutions, they have taken X & O in Figure 3. Whereas in the QP, it is given as X and square sign. I get a doubt if different question papers had different prints for Figure 3.
MAT Qn 17 : In Medical colleges, Doctors have dual roles - to teach and also handle patients in the Hospitals attached with the college. A teacher is a teacher - whether he teaches at school level or college level. So Doctors can be Teachers and Teachers can be Doctors. Let's wait & see what NCERT will say.
If you draw a Venn diagram for teachers and doctors it becomes a contradictory one. Let me put it more clearly --- a doctor who teaches in a medical school is definately a teacher. Just see this for example I studied MBBS MD DNB and now I teach in a medical school so I became a teacher but now consider this thing I completed BSc BEd so I became a teacher. But can I treat patients????? Never possible. So the Venn diagram is not intersecting independent circles. Therefore option 1 is not at all correct. Anybody correct me if you can....
Ohh.. We can take it into account but its then becomes a complex thing. In PhD I feel its a degree so can't be taken into account while referring to professions. Let me elaborate it when someone completed PhD he is addressed as a Doctor not regarded as a doctor so technically he is PhD doctor which needs to be specified. Now still we can consider your statement but then let us focus on the technical meaning of the word teacher which means anyone who teaches!!! But we don't take that meaning into consideration. Similarly we must not take PhD doctors into consideration... Hope you agree now at least....
Hey guys.... Saw ur comments on the answer keys..... I think that political inequality is the correct answer and I agree to the mat question on teachers.... But I think that the coaching classes answer keys should be followed with error of +_3 marks....

Heads up on ncert answer key.... If there is any anomaly in that we should write letters to them immediately.... Also discuss on my new blog.. ntserevealed. blogspot. in
Technically a Teacher is a person who teaches in a primary secondary and higher secondary. Though I agree that even medical school professors also teach they are not regarded as teachers therefore its wrong to say that doctors are teachers...
Yes, this is the point that I also stressed on. Lets hope NCERT either deletes this or provides answer in our favor. I checked several websites and they were clear to distinguish between a "teacher" and a "professor" or a "lecturer"
@ Krishna ar I reflected a bit more on it. This is the best explanation I feel... @ Shriyal : You are saying that all Doctors can become Teachers and the reverse is not true. To become a Teacher, it is not necessary always to have BSc BEd. This rule is applicable only for primary & high school Teachers. Not at higher education levels.
Let’s take the case of Medical Colleges again. I have heard of many people who study MBBS, MD, PhD etc. in Medicine primarily to become a Medical Professor (college teacher). Once they join the college, they also get the additional responsibility of handling Patients from the attached hospital. This way they can transfer the practical experience that they gain to the students. So here Teachers also play Doctors.
Though such common intersection will be quite less in number, the point to be noted is “it exists”.
@guhan First of all any person pursuing medical career is first a physician. His primary job is to handle patients and the beginning of this is done during Internship at MBBS level. Further to become a medical professor one must do his MD where it is mandatory to handle patients or better to say assist the seniors in handling patients so again before becoming teachers in a medical school they become Doctors you get my point so your argument basically becomes pointless mind you. Friend its IMPOSSIBLE to become first a teacher and then a medico ( simultaneously serving both the jobs ) so its always the other way round when you pursue medical career. Hope you agree...
Last year technically the cutoff was 60 as all those who cleared the 40% hurdle got through. Therefore only around 850 scholarships were awarded. That means only around 850 students cleared both or rather I would say all the three papers. Are there any chances of happening the same thing this year?? I feel this year we might have a cutoff of around 65-70. Please reply...
No I feel the cutoff can never exceed 70 this time it must remain around 68-69 as there are many discrepancies in the paper and it was tougher than last two years...
It is everyone's wish that cutoff must be low and mine too since I badly messed up NTSE, but many students from Delhi NCR, Haryana , Chandigarh and Parts of Maharashtra and Rajasthan have scored exceedingly well. This seems to give me the chills and even big doubts about my selection!
I think you need not worry at all. I feel anything above 72-74 is a good score as I quite agree with all you comments above regarding the cutoff. Further NTSE is not everything in a student's academics. The best thing to do is to forget about it and start FRESH preparation for future exams like JEE or AIPMT. All the best...
@ Krishna : How did u get the info that students from Delhi NCR, Haryana, Chandigarh and Parts of Maharashtra and Rajasthan have scored exceedingly well ? How many students responded to your survey (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/14XbnoOu3MiR-4VNmhNBELzvyuYdxcbiiA2fLZm9_0yM/viewform) ? Can u share the data collected so far ?
Guhan, I got to know that Delhites have done well (and Haryanvites) from close friends. Almost everyone there is getting a 95+. Maharashtra has 2 people scoring around 120 and the highest so far is around 123(Perhaps natl topper accdng to a coaching institute). Rajasthan doesn't need a mention. Most of the people who filled up the form are scoring between 75-95. 3 of them 100+, with a girl scoring 110.1 All this just shows that the cutoff will NEVER be <70
Ranks are not declared by ncert as everyone recieves the same honour ie. same scholarship amount so its not of much importance. But still the ranks are predicted by Aryans which are most accurate....
Refer this. It is clear in this case that it refer to professors and not teachers. Students may have seen similar questions before and gone for option 1 in 17. Maybe NCERT decided to do a bit of wordplay ;) (Teacher vs Professor )
Guhan is right about the fact that people can teach without an Educational degree in Med college (though a Phd is required / some amount of research), but I guess the major fact to be noted is professor vs teacher and not whether a Bsc Bed graduate can be a teacher because :-
There are 3 intersections (Women- Doctor, Teacher- Doctor, Women -Teacher) Now, Teacher - Doctor can be viewed as the vice versa too (as the question has only 3 sets) D-T mapping is possible but T-D mapping is not possible, so NCERT might well award marks for (1) considering D-T mapping alone. So we need to get a bit more specific about the terms and then look at the teacher vs professor distinction. This seems to provide a more strong case than the former. We can say "n" number of things, its all in the hands of NCERT and I hope they dont do any mischief!!!!
No no you people are messing it up and making it more complex. Firstly no one can be a teacher first and then turn to medical profession its impossible at all as we should consider simultaneous service not individual one so read my comment above and you will understand and agree what I say....
@ Shriyal I would like to appreciate your thoughts and also Krishna’s.
Did you refer to the correct question in the pdf file sent by Krishna (http://www.psgtech.edu/department/fashion/fta/verbal%20venn%20diagrams.pdf)? In Qn. 36, which is similar, the answer given has all the 3 intersections. Which Qn. are you referring to ?
Set of “Teachers as Doctors” : Consider this case. I study MBBS and become a Biology teacher in a School or College – just out of pure passion (like some Doctors write Civil Services exam and become IAS or IPS officers). If required I will also do BEd. Nobody can stop me or question me Why I am doing this. Right ? So I am a Teacher now.
Simultaneously, I start practicing as a Doctor in the evenings. It’s quite possible to do.
Hence, as I said earlier, this set (Teachers as Doctors) certainly cannot be an empty set.
But technically you are a doctor as soon as you complete MBBS so first you are a doctor and later you start teaching and become a teacher so again its the other way round...
True , in this way an advocate may be a teacher, a doctor can be an advocate, a film actor can be a teacher and so on. But in the question it is asked which best expressess
Are you people sure that 100% chances of selection if marks are 70+, bcoz i m qualifying in both MAT and SAT but My total marks are 75-76, please reply fast
getting 98 according to official key. but i feel some answers are wrong.like in 24 reason is that nitrates are highly soluble in water.85 should be 2) option(ncert). in mat answer to 20 should be 2).i expected 102 . lets see what happens
YES the cutoff will not be more than 75. and we can send a mail to ntse regarding any wrong answer which they published on the scoring key and they will make the changes accordingly if they find their scoring key answer wrong . so plz if u feel that any of their answers are wrong ,mail them to ntse.ncert@yahoo.co.in ..... and i feel some answers are wrong like the mat Q17 . they will make changes nd after all this is not the final anser key. It is yet to come...
It seems that NTSE results are going to be declared soon (in Early August). Heartbeats are already going up and butterflies are swarming in the stomachs!!

Yes Sir... it's after negative marking.
DeleteSir... I also want to ask whether the cutoff comes for MAT and SAT separately or it comes for MAT+SAT(combined)??
It is combined of MAT & SAT, once the student scores qualifying marks, separately, in all the three papers (MAT, Language & SAT.
DeleteQualifying marks are 40% for General category and 35% for Reserved Categories, separately for all three papers.
Thanks Mohan...

DeleteCan we have a discussion on the answer keys for NTSE 2015 Stage 2 ? Some of the keys provided by the coaching institutes differ.
ReplyDeleteMAT Qn 17 : Teachers can be Doctors and vice-versa (as can be seen in Medical colleges).
Delete96 HAS to be option 4.
DeleteI too have an issue with Qn 53.
DeleteMAT Qn 17 : In Medical colleges, Doctors have dual roles - to teach and also handle patients in the Hospitals attached with the college. A teacher is a teacher - whether he teaches at school level or college level. So Doctors can be Teachers and Teachers can be Doctors. Let's wait & see what NCERT will say.
DeleteAbsolutely agree for Q.34 :D
Delete+1.33 added.
Lets leave 17 to ncert (if that goes wrong then score back to the same point :P )
How's IESOTC?
Q. 34: Option 3 ic correct; made a cube from a chart paper; drawn a square, a cross and a circle of faces as shown in paper and checked.
DeleteQ. 17: Option 1 is correct; a lady doctor often works as a medical teacher; no doubt about that.
For question #17, option 1 looks correct.
DeleteFor question #94, option 3 is correct.
For question #96, i think #1 and $4 both should be okay.

DeleteLooks good argument .... None of the ONLY teachers can be doctors .... but just thinking what about PhD
DeleteLooks good argument .... None of the ONLY teachers can be doctors .... but just thinking what about PhD
DeleteOhh..

DeleteHey guys.... Saw ur comments on the answer keys..... I think that political inequality is the correct answer and I agree to the mat question on teachers.... But I think that the coaching classes answer keys should be followed with error of +_3 marks....

ReplyDeleteTechnically a Teacher is a person who teaches in a primary secondary and higher secondary. Though I agree that even medical school professors also teach they are not regarded as teachers therefore its wrong to say that doctors are teachers...
ReplyDeleteYes, this is the point that I also stressed on. Lets hope NCERT either deletes this or provides answer in our favor. I checked several websites and they were clear to distinguish between a "teacher" and a "professor" or a "lecturer"
Delete@ Krishna ar I reflected a bit more on it. This is the best explanation I feel...

@ Shriyal : You are saying that all Doctors can become Teachers and the reverse is not true. To become a Teacher, it is not necessary always to have BSc BEd. This rule is applicable only for primary & high school Teachers. Not at higher education levels.
DeleteLet’s take the case of Medical Colleges again.
Actually your argument of Doctors can be teachers is accepted.
DeleteQuestion is whether teacher/lecturer/Prof ( without any medical degree ) can be a doctor (treat patient) as well ......

Delete@guhan First of all any person pursuing medical career is first a physician.
DeleteFriend its IMPOSSIBLE to become first a teacher and then a medico ( simultaneously serving both the jobs ) so its always the other way round when you pursue medical career.
ReplyDeleteCutoff will be higher. Mostly will be around early 70s or maybe late 60s (if many have done badly)
DeleteNo I feel the cutoff can never exceed 70 this time it must remain around 68-69 as there are many discrepancies in the paper and it was tougher than last two years...
DeleteIt is everyone's wish that cutoff must be low and mine too since I badly messed up NTSE, but many students from Delhi NCR, Haryana , Chandigarh and Parts of Maharashtra and Rajasthan have scored exceedingly well. This seems to give me the chills and even big doubts about my selection!
DeleteI think you need not worry at all. I feel anything above 72-74 is a good score as I quite agree with all you comments above regarding the cutoff. Further NTSE is not everything in a student's academics. The best thing to do is to forget about it and start FRESH preparation for future exams like JEE or AIPMT.
DeleteAll the best...

Delete@ Krishna : How did u get the info that students from Delhi NCR, Haryana, Chandigarh and Parts of Maharashtra and Rajasthan have scored exceedingly well ? How many students responded to your survey (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/14XbnoOu3MiR-4VNmhNBELzvyuYdxcbiiA2fLZm9_0yM/viewform) ? Can u share the data collected so far ?
DeleteGuhan, I got to know that Delhites have done well (and Haryanvites) from close friends. Almost everyone there is getting a 95+. Maharashtra has 2 people scoring around 120 and the highest so far is around 123(Perhaps natl topper accdng to a coaching institute). Rajasthan doesn't need a mention. Most of the people who filled up the form are scoring between 75-95. 3 of them 100+, with a girl scoring 110.1
DeleteAll this just shows that the cutoff will NEVER be <70
Does NTSE declare a rank-wise merit list or are the selected candidates'' names just arranged alphabetically???
ReplyDeleteRanks are not declared by ncert as everyone recieves the same honour ie. same scholarship amount so its not of much importance. But still the ranks are predicted by Aryans which are most accurate....
DeleteOnly last year they declared selected students names alphabetically. Earlier, they used to declare rank list ... This show how random they are ....
ReplyDeletehttp://www.psgtech.edu/department/fashion/fta/verbal%20venn%20diagrams.pdf
ReplyDeleteRefer this. It is clear in this case that it refer to professors and not teachers. Students may have seen similar questions before and gone for option 1 in 17. Maybe NCERT decided to do a bit of wordplay ;) (Teacher vs Professor )
Guhan is right about the fact that people can teach without an Educational degree in Med college (though a Phd is required / some amount of research), but I guess the major fact to be noted is professor vs teacher and not whether a Bsc Bed graduate can be a teacher because :-
There are 3 intersections (Women- Doctor, Teacher- Doctor, Women -Teacher)
Now, Teacher - Doctor can be viewed as the vice versa too (as the question has only 3 sets) D-T mapping is possible but T-D mapping is not possible, so NCERT might well award marks for (1) considering D-T mapping alone.
DeleteYeah its pretty clear from the above PDF file that doctors are professors but not vice versa...
DeleteThat's what I am trying to explain friend....
@ Shriyal
DeleteI would like to appreciate your thoughts and also Krishna’s.
DeleteProfessor
ReplyDeleteSee definition in Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary
Definition of professor in English:
noun
1 A university academic of the highest rank;
2 A university teacher.
Definately true but that's not the case. Refer my comments above you will understand what I want to say friend...
DeleteTrue , in this way an advocate may be a teacher, a doctor can be an advocate, a film actor can be a teacher and so on. But in the question it is asked which best expressess
